MALAYSIA is inching closer to fully inoculating 60% of its population against Covid-19 as 18.98 million people have now completed their vaccination.

According to the Special Committee for Ensuring Access to Covid-19 Vaccine Supply (JKJAV), 58.1% of the general population and 81% of adults have been vaccinated with a single of double-dose Covid-19 vaccine.

Meanwhile, 22.34 million or 68.4% of the general population and 93.3% of the adult population have received at least one dose of the double-dose vaccine.

The Klang Valley led the vaccination tally with 107.9% of its adult population and 79% of its general population having been fully vaccinated.

When an area records a vaccination rate of more than 100%, it means that the changes in the population size is yet to be accounted for by the Department of Statistics since the last census was conducted. This also includes undocumented residents.

Sabah was at the bottom of the list with the lowest vaccination coverage. It was also the only state to have vaccinated less than 60% of the adult population.

Only 1.56 million Sabah folks have been fully vaccinated. This translates to 56.6% of the adult population and 40.1% of the general population.

Meanwhile, the 321,342 doses of vaccine dispensed yesterday brought the total number of doses administered under the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme to 41.24 million.

Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said the JKJAV is also working to cover the remaining 20% of the adult population who have yet to be vaccinated or refusing to be vaccinated.
