THE Lundu, Sarawak paedophile Alladin Lanim managed to molest young boys unchecked for 14 long years because there were no reports of molests made in the district that could have alerted the police, the state’s police commissioner Aidi Ismail said today.

“Not even one report,” he told reporters when asked about the case during a media conference in Serian.

Oil palm plantation worker Alladin Lanim, who is now languishing in a jail after two courts sentenced on him August 17 to 16 years behind bars and to be whipped 12 times for molesting five boys aged between eight and 14.

Alladin, described by the Sydney Morning Herald as “prolific” over his boasting on messaging forums about recording his crimes on the dark web, had reportedly been abusing children between the ages of two and 16 since 2007.

He was unmasked in a joint effort by Australian law enforcement agencies – the Australian Federal Police, Queensland Police and the Australian Transactions Reports and Analysis Centre – in August.

The Australians had tracked Alladin, described as a tech-savvy person, for over two years after he caught their attention over his bragging and posts.

“We do not have the technical expertise the Australian police have,” Aidi said.

When he was brought to court to be charged, the court was told the 41-year-old Alladin would get the boys aroused by letting them watch pornographic videos on his handphone and, when they were, would start fondling them.

Aidi said when Alladin was finally arrested – when walking out at the end of his quarantine period on a return from the peninsula – he was grooming the children.

“Just touching (and fondling). No (penile) penetration. He would then take photographs (of him fondling them) and post the photos on the internet.”

Aidi said in the ongoing investigation into Alladin’s crimes, the current focus is on what else they could find in his handphones that could be used as evidence to link him to other boys.

He said the handphones have been sent to Bukit Aman’s forensic experts for analysis.

“We (Sarawak police) are still waiting for the forensic report. We are working to expedite it.”

Aidi said he hoped the report would be available next month.

He added that if any new evidence could be gleaned from the phones, then more cases could be referred to the public prosecutor to help determine whether Alladin should face new charges to keep him in prison for a longer period.

The young boys Alladin molested are mostly the children of his co-workers at the plantation and his village of Bitokan in the coastal district of Lundu, some 54km from Kuching.

Alladin, who was unrepresented when he was brought before two Kuching magistrates’ courts, pleaded guilty to nearly two dozen charges under the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017. – September 21, 2021.
