14,954 new Covid-19 cases, drop for 4th day in a row

DAILY Covid-19 cases in the country dropped for the fourth day in a row as Malaysia logged its lowest infection count in almost two months. 

Director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said 14,954 fresh infections were reported as of noon today. 

The last time Malaysia reported fewer cases than today was on July 26, with 14,516 infections.

Noor Hisham said that Sarawak topped the daily cases by state for the fifth continuous day with 2,707 new cases, followed by Selangor with 2,028 and Johor with 1,948.  

The Klang Valley, which comprises Selangor, Kuala Lumpur (383) and Putrajaya (19) contributed to 2,430 cases or 16% of the overall tally today. 

Other states reporting new cases are Kelantan (1,420), Sabah (1,356), Penang (1,259), Perak (1,222), Kedah (809), Pahang (705), Terengganu (671), Malacca (207), Negri Sembilan (144) and Perlis (76). 

Labuan, the only federal territory under phase 4 of the national recovery plan, did not report any new cases today. 

As for overall cases by state and territory, Selangor tops the chart with 658,309 cases, followed by Sabah (185,577) and Kuala Lumpur (182,864). 

Meanwhile, the Health Ministry said 18,295,012 people or 78.2% of the adult population in the country are now fully vaccinated against Covid-19. 

The ministry said 232,559 vaccine doses were administered yesterday under the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme, of which 73,106 received their first jab while the remaining 159,453 completed their second dose.  

This brings the total number of vaccine doses administered under the programme to 40,155,975. – September 19, 2021.
