ONE traveller, who was headed to Langkawi, tested positive for Covid-19 in a pre-entry screening, Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said today.

The director-general of health said that the sole case was traced to the Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 prior to departure and the individual was under category 1.

“One individual tested positive for Covid-19 at KLIA2. This case was found to be in category 1 and has been given home surveillance and observation orders to be isolated for a period of 10 days,” Noor Hisham said in a statement today.

The director-general said a total of 2,507 travellers were screened through the travel bubble pilot project to Langkawi as of noon today.

He said 2,326 individuals were screened at five different airport entry points while 181 were screened at the Kuala Perlis ferry terminal.

A total of 26 children under six did not undergo the test and were allowed to leave with their families.

“A total of 2,481 individuals underwent Covid-19 screenings, of whom 2,468 took the RTK-Antigen test and 13 took the RT-PCR test.

“The remaining 26 were children below the age of six who were exempted from the test and allowed to leave with their families,” he said.

Tourist screening comes as part of the travel bubble pilot project to Langkawi, which kickstarted on September 16.

Including the single case today, the Health Ministry has so far traced 10 cases under this project, of which five were traced in the first day and four yesterday.

Noor Hisham said that the success of the Langkawi pilot project was crucial in determining the direction of the opening of the next domestic tourism bubble destination.

The Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry said it was targeting about 200,000 domestic tourist arrivals to Langkawi between this month and December.

Its minister Nancy Shukri said about 30,000 tourists are expected to visit the resort island this month following its reopening under a tourism bubble pilot project, which began on Thursday. – September 18, 2021.
