15,549 new Covid-19 cases today, lowest since July 26

COVID-19 cases in the country dropped to its lowest in almost two months after Malaysia reported 15,549 fresh infections as of noon today, director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said. 

The last time Malaysia reported fewer cases than today was on July 26, with 14,516 infections.  

Noor Hisham said the new infections today bring the country’s caseload to 2,082,876.  

Sarawak continued to top the chart of daily new cases by state for the third consecutive day with 2,929 cases. 

Johor displaced Selangor to take second spot with 2,208 cases, while Selangor logged 1,995.  

The Klang Valley, which comprises Selangor, Kuala Lumpur (382) and Putrajaya (31) contributed to 2,408 cases or 15.5% of the overall cases reported today. 

Other states reporting new cases are Sabah (1,395), Penang (1,375), Kelantan (1,214), Perak (1,120), Kedah (1,073), Terengganu (755), Pahang (634), Malacca (263), Negri Sembilan (131), Perlis (33) and Labuan (11).  

As for the overall cases by state and territory, Selangor leads the table with 656,281 cases, followed by Sabah (184,221) and Kuala Lumpur (182,481). 

Meanwhile, the Health Ministry said the national vaccination campaign will achieve its goal of 80% adults inoculated against Covid-19 on Monday, a full month ahead of schedule, as nearly 18.13 million of grown-ups in the country have been fully dosed.

According to data published by the ministry on the CovidNow website, 238,002 doses of vaccine were administered yesterday under the national immunisation programme, 75,986 of them a first jab and 162,016 a second shot.

This brings the total doses of vaccine administered under the programme to 39,923,416. – September 18, 2021.
