NEARLY 17.8 million people, 76.8% of the adult population, in the country are now fully inoculated against Covid-19, the Ministry of Health said today on its Covidnow website.

The ministry said 202,298 doses of vaccine were administered yesterday, 62,108 of them first shots and 140,190 second shots.

This brings the total doses of vaccine administered under the national Covid-19 immunisation programme to 39,685,414.

The Klang Valley, which comprises Kuala Lumpur, Selangor and Putrajaya, topped the vaccination rate with 105% of its adult population having been fully inoculated.

The percentage exceeded 100% due to population statistics from the Department of Statistics not accounting for change in population size since the last census and undocumented residents.

Sabah has the lowest percentage of fully vaccinated adults at 53.1%.

Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said the government expected 80% of the adult population to be vaccinated by the end of October, by which time Covid-19 would be endemic.

The CovidNow tracker projects that 80% of adults will be vaccinated by September 21, 80% of the general population by December 3, and that a 100% vaccination rate for adults is achievable by November 6.

In total, 66.7% of the population, including adolescents aged 12-17, have had at least one dose and 55% are fully vaccinated. – September 17, 2021.
