1,222 Covid-19-related cases in ICU

MALAYSIA continued to record a high number of Covid-19 related cases in the intensive care units (ICU) with 1,222 cases reported today, Health Ministry director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said.

He said that out of the total, 913 were confirmed Covid-19 cases, while 309 were suspected cases and cases under investigation.

Noor Hisham also said there were 710 patients requiring respiratory assistance.

Similarly, 422 of these patients were confirmed Covid-19 cases, while 288 were believed to have contracted the virus or cases under investigation. Meanwhile, there were 16,939 recoveries recorded, against the 18,815 new infections today.

The recoveries to date stand at 1,800,278 cases.

Some 18,593 of today’s cases were in category 1 (asymptomatic) or category 2 (mild symptoms).

In the more serious stages of infection, 222 cases were in categories 3, 4, or 5.

Twenty-one new clusters were reported today, of which nine were from workplaces, six from the community, three from the education sector, two high-risk groups and one from a detention centre. – September 16, 2021.
