JELUTONG MP RSN Rayer was suspended from the Dewan Rakyat session for two days, today, for calling Dewan Rakyat deputy speaker Mohd Rashid Hasnon “shameful”.

The altercation began when Rayer asked why Rashid had rejected motions to remove speaker Azhar Azizan Harun.

“Deputy speaker, don’t abuse your power. People are watching you. Shameful (memalukan),” he said.

Rashid responded by asking Rayer to retract his remarks, to which Rayer replied that he will not retract because it was a shameful act on Rashid’s part.

“This is a warning Jelutong. Retract the shameful sentence,” Rashid said, repeating the warning three times in total.

Rayer refused to back down and Rashid suspended him from proceedings, with the MP then shown the door.

“Sergeant-at-arms please ask Jelutong to leave now. I order sergeant-at-arms, to carry out my orders and lead Jelutong out… two days,” Rashid said.

Commotion ensued as opposition MPs objected to Rashid’s decision, some even calling for his resignation.

MPs from the pposition bloc even went on to chant “memalukan” as Rashid announced that the House will adjourn for lunch break.

Rashid said he had responded to lawmakers who filed the motion for Azhar’s removal in a written reply.

Earlier, opposition MPs grilled Azhar on the fate of the motion to remove him.

Azhar recused himself from the decision and handed the floor to Rashid.

Rashid said more than 10 motions had been filed by opposition MPs. However, the motions did not follow rules.

“I have responded to all who gave motions. Please read my replies. My decision is final and you can appeal,” he said.

It would only be in order paper if it is accepted. I do not have to make an announcement but only have to respond to those who proposed the motions,” he added.

Gobind Singh Deo (Puchong-PH) pressed him for a response.

“Speaker, you must give the right answer. This is Dewan Rakyat. Your actions are being watched by Malaysians. Please, you must behave yourself. What is the decision? Why can’t it be revealed to the House?” he said.

He reiterated that the motions were rejected because rules were not followed. – September 14, 2021.
