Malaysia reports 292 Covid deaths

MALAYSIA logged 292 coronavirus deaths as of 11.59pm yesterday, 99 of which were calculated to have occurred on the day based on the seven-day average, the Health Ministry said. 

The ministry said 193 of the fatalities were backlog cases that were previously unreported.

The Covid-19 death toll now stands at 20,711. 

The government has a new method of reporting Covid deaths which are listed on the newly launched CovidNow website.

The website shows two indicators for Covid-19 deaths – backlog cases that are reported on the day and deaths that are calculated to have occurred on the day based on the seven-day average.

Deaths were reported yesterday in all the states and territories except Putrajaya and Labuan.

Of the 292 reported deaths, 106 were pronounced dead on arrival, taking the tally in this category to 3,782.

The data show daily deaths have dropped significantly in Johor, Kedah, Kelantan, Malacca, Penang, Perak, Sabah, Sarawak, Selangor, and Kuala Lumpur. 

Meanwhile, 19,198 new infections and 20,980 recoveries were reported yesterday. Active cases in the country number 237,277. – September 13, 2021.
