THE Youth and Sports Ministry will be holding a discussion with the Education Ministry to consider the proposal to build a special sports school for persons with disabilities, Youth and Sports Minister Ahmad Faizal Azumu said today.
Faizal said the discussion is expected to be held soon to assess all requirements needed before the proposal can be finalised.
“(The ministry) always holds discussions with various ministries to enable youth and sports-based activities or programmes to be held together.
“The establishment of this sports school, Insya Allah, one day it will become (a) reality, providing better initiatives for para sports to grow,” he said.
On September 7, Senator Ras Adiba Radzi, who represents persons with disabilities in Dewan Negara, proposed the setting up of the first sports school for the disabled community to unearth new talents.
The National Alliance of Mental Health also proposed the provision of disabled-friendly facilities and amenities at stadiums, sports complexes and fields.
The group also suggested that para athletes who are no longer competing be given the opportunity to become coaches. – Bernama, September 12, 2021.
