MALAYSIA continued to record a high number of Covid-19 cases in the intensive care unit (ICU) with 1,247 cases in the last 24 hours, said director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
He said that out of the total, 936 were confirmed Covid-19 cases, while 375 were suspected cases and cases under investigation.
Noor Hisham also said there were 667 patients requiring respiratory assistance.
He added that 453 of these patients were confirmed Covid-19 cases, while 214 were believed to have contracted the virus or were cases under investigation.
Meanwhile, 21,771 recoveries were recorded against the 19,550 new infections reported today.
Some 19,285 of today’s cases were in category 1 (asymptomatic) or category 2 (mild symptoms).
In the more serious stages of infection, 265 cases were in categories 3 to 5.
There were 28 new clusters reported today, of which 17 were from the workplace, six from community clusters, three involved high-risk groups and two from the education sector.
Earlier today, the Special Committee for Ensuring Access to Covid-19 Vaccine Supply (JKJAV) said 90.5% or 21,195,780 million of the adult population have received at least one shot of the vaccine.
The committee also said to date 72% or 16,856,812 million of the adult population have been fully inoculated.
This brings the total number of shots dispensed since the start of the immunisation programme in February to 38,001,646.
In terms of total population, 51.6% have been fully vaccinated while 64.9% have received at least one shot. – September 11, 2021.
