103 new Delta cases detected, says Noor Hisham

HEALTH authorities have identified 103 new cases of Covid-19, all of which were of the Delta variant, director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said today.

According to Noor Hisham, the UKM Medical Molecular Biology Institute has identified 44 cases of Delta, while the Tropical Infectious Diseases Research & Education Centre has identified 59 cases.

Noor Hisham said this brought the cumulative number of people infected with Covid-19 VOC and variant of interest (VOI) to 1,324 cases.

He said that of the total detected, all but 20 cases were VOC.

Delta cases have been detected in Johor (24 cases), Kedah (24), Malacca (13), Kuantan (10), Perak (seven), Terengganu (five), Kuala Lumpur (four) and Negri Sembilan (three).

Noor Hisham said that to date, there have been 1,081 Delta cases, 209 Beta cases and 14 Alpha cases.

VOIs that have been detected here are Theta (13), Kappa (4) and Eta (3). – September 10, 2021.
