Malaysia nudges grim landmark of 20,000 Covid-19 deaths

MALAYSIA is close to reaching 20,000 Covid-19 deaths, with 341 fatalities reported today, said director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

He said currently, the national death toll is 19,827.

There was also a hike in the number of Covid-19 patients in intensive care, with 1,310 people requiring critical care treatment.

Of these, 935 were confirmed Covid-19 cases, while 375 were suspected cases and cases under investigation, Noor Hisham said in a statement.

He also said there were 773 patients requiring respiratory assistance.

Similarly, 455 of these patients were confirmed Covid-19 cases, while 318 were believed to have contracted the virus or cases under investigation.

Meanwhile, there are 242,161 active cases after 21,476 recoveries were recorded against the 21,176 new infections today.

Some 20,838 of today’s cases are in category 1 (asymptomatic) or category 2 (mild symptoms).

In the more serious stages of infection, 338 cases are in categories 3, 4, or 5.

There were 37 new clusters reported today, of which 30 are from the workplace, five are community clusters and two involve high risk groups. – September 10, 2021.
