AN overwhelming 86% of the 2,417 Covid-19 fatalities declared dead on arrival (DOA) at hospitals were not under the supervision of health authorities, Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said today.

“From the 2,417 DOA cases, as of August, only 217 or 14% were under supervision of the Ministry of Health, Covid-19 assessment centres or private health facilities,” he said at the ministry’s weekly press conference today.

“Eighty-six per cent were not under any medical observation,” he added.

As such, he said the ministry will work towards reducing the number of DOA cases by ensuring that more patients are given medical supervision.

He said the ministry is “deep diving” into details to find out why Covid-19 patients were dying outside hospitals.

“We want to better advise the public, to ensure that you get tested, and once you get the onset of serious symptoms, you are referred to the assessment centre or to your local GP,” he said. – September 9, 2021.
