19,733 new Covid-19 cases

MALAYSIA today logged 19,733 fresh Covid-19 infections, taking the national caseload to 1,900,467, director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said.

According to Ministry of Health statistics, Penang logged a record 2,474 fresh cases today, surpassing the state’s previous high of 2,078 cases on August 26.

Only Sarawak (3,100 cases) and Selangor (2,989) were the only states to record more infections in the past 24 hours.

Meanwhile, Klang Valley, which includes Selangor, Kuala Lumpur (537) and Putrajaya (29), reported a combined 3,549 cases, 18% of the nation’s total today.

Other states reporting new cases were Sabah (2,067), Johor (1,867), Kedah (1,564), Kelantan (1,471), Perak (1,319), Terengganu (904), Pahang (700), Malacca (375), Negri Sembilan (256) and Perlis (74).

Labuan, the only territory in phase 4 under the national recovery plan, reported seven new infections today.

Selangor (630,575 cases) has recorded the most infections nationwide since the start of the pandemic, followed by Kuala Lumpur (178,157) and Sabah (165,439).

Meanwhile, a total of 326,476 Covid-19 vaccine doses were administered yesterday, which means 16,299,881 people have been vaccinated. To date, 20,814,413 people, or 88.9% of the adult population, have received their first shot.

The special committee for Covid-19 vaccine access also said 134,307 people received their first dose yesterday, while 192,169 received their second jab.

At least 97.8% of the Klang Valley’s adult population has now been vaccinated, according to government figures, surpassing that of Labuan. – September 8, 2021.
