YANG di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah had informed Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob that he did not have to face a motion of confidence in the Dewan Rakyat to test his legitimacy, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Parliament) Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said.

At a press conference today, Wan Junaidi said Ismail had informed ministers of this development during the first cabinet meeting.

“When the prime minister was granted an audience with the King, he received the King’s consent that he did not need to have a vote of confidence,” Free Malaysia Today quoted Wan Junaidi as saying.

Prior to meeting with the 114 MPs in favour of Ismail, the King had also met with party representatives on August 17, during which he told them that whomever becomes the new prime minister ought to face a vote.

His decree was publicly revealed in a press statement by Istana Negara on August 18.

Following which opposition leaders have also called for Ismail to test his mandate.

However, Attorney-General Idrus Harun announced on Sunday there is no need to legitimise the appointment of the prime minister and the government that has been formed in accordance with the law. – September 7, 2021.
