Second highest Covid-19 toll of 362 deaths today

MALAYSIA recorded its second highest Covid-19 death count today with 362 fatalities, director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said.

The figure brings the national coronavirus death toll to 17,883.  The highest daily death toll recorded was 393 on August 26.

There are also 978 Covid-19 patients in intensive care units (ICU), with 460 requiring respiratory support.

The active caseload is 256,302 after accounting for 21,582 recoveries, against 19,507 infections today.

Of the total fatalities, 104 were declared dead on arrival and 273 had a history of comorbidities.

By state, Selangor recorded 152 deaths, Johor (51), Sabah (55), Kuala Lumpur (24), Penang (19), Perak (9), Kelantan (7), Kedah (20), Negri Sembilan (13), Malacca (5), Pahang (2), Perlis and Sarawak (2). 

Sixteen new clusters were also reported, of which 12 involve workplaces, three in the community and one in an academic institution. 

In total, the country has recorded 4,854 clusters with 1,455 still active. – September 4, 2021.
