WALK-in for vaccinations will be allowed for certain categories of people in more states to expedite vaccination coverage, Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Dr Adham Baba said today.

“The walk-in initiative for states will be updated from time to time. The public is advised to check with their respective state health departments,” he said in a statement.

Some of these states have started allowing walk-ins from today while others will be doing so over the next few days.

Among the states which will allow walk-ins for certain categories are:

1. Sabah: For individuals aged 18 and above.

2. Terengganu: Walk-ins allowed at all public and integrated vaccination centres from September 5 for individuals aged 18 above and residents of Terengganu.

3. Kelantan: For individuals aged 40 and above, individuals with co-morbidities, pregnant and nursing mothers. However, they may have to pre-book a slot by contacting 09-7743099 dan 09-7742099.

10. Penang: For senior citizens aged 60 and above.

11. Malacca: For those aged 50 and above and the differently-abled at public vaccination centres. Walk-ins for Malaysian aged 18 and began today at the Stadium Hang Jebat and Stadium Jasin mega-vaccination centres.

Adham said the government will continue to intensify and expand walk-ins and drive-through vaccination initiatives.

“States are encouraged to open more drive-through PPVs (vaccination centres) if there is a need to increase capacity,” he said in a statement after co-chairing the Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force Meeting with Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin.

He added that 17 organisations have been appointed to carry out mobile vaccination programmes under the national Covid-19 vaccination drive and states could liaise with them.

Walk-in vaccination was allowed last month in certain PPVs in the Klang Valley.

He also urged for more attention to be given to Sabah, Kelantan, Kedah, Johor, Perak, Terengganu and Pahang which have a vaccination coverage of less than 55%.

Adham added that the vaccine taskforce will also focus on outreach programmes with the help of several agencies, including the army, to carry out vaccination programmes in remote areas.

He said he has proposed that at least 10% of the total vaccines are allocated to states via the state health department for the use at industrial vaccination centres, which is in line with the National Security Council’s decision to intensify vaccination efforts among employees who are citizens and non-citizens.

He said Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob has also agreed for vaccinations to be expedited in the East Coast and Johor to avoid any issues during the monsoon season.

Adham said Sabah must also ensure that vaccination is prioritised for citizens and industries.

Ismail yesterday said all states are expected to hit an average vaccination coverage of 80% of its adult population by the end of September.

“I believe the vaccination coverage will hit 100% by end of October, 2021, giving full protection to the ‘Malaysian Family’,” he said. – September 3, 2021.
