THE bulk of today’s 20,988 new Covid-19 cases involved the unvaccinated but there were still 6,133 breakthrough infections, Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said.
The health director-general said they comprised 29.2% of today’s total cases, and were fully vaccinated individuals.
Another 9,860 infections or 47% of total cases involved the unvaccinated, while 4,995 or 23.8% were those who have had at least one dose of a vaccine.
Breakthrough infections have hovered around a rough average of 5,000 daily since August 29.
Among the fully vaccinated who are infected, Noor Hisham said 23 cases are in severe condition, requiring treatment in the intensive care unit (ICU).
By category of disease severity, 107 cases are in category 5 (critical condition and requiring intubation), of which 10 are fully vaccinated patients, 16 have had only one dose of a vaccine and 81 are unvaccinated.
There are 63 patients in category 4 (pneumonia and requiring oxygen), where 13 of them are fully vaccinated, 12 have had one dose of a vaccine, and 38 are not vaccinated.
In category 3 (pneumonia and requiring hospitalisation), there is a total of 171 cases, where the fully vaccinated comprise 52 cases, 42 have only one dose, and 77 are unvaccinated.
In category 1 and 2 or mild Covid-19, the unvaccinated comprise 9,664 cases. – September 2, 2021.
