THE Health Ministry will be giving urgent attention to five states that have recorded a rapid rise in daily Covid-19 cases in an effort to curb the virus outbreak and bring the infections under control, newly minted Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said.
The five states are Sabah, Johor, Kedah, Penang, and Kelantan.
“The ministry will be putting an urgent effort to ensure that the spread of Covid-19 in several states can be curbed as soon as possible.
“We have seen how the establishment of the Greater Klang Valley Task Force has managed to reduce the number of cases in the Klang Valley.
“We will bring the same focus and intensity in these states that are reporting a high number of cases,” Khairy told members of the media in his first press conference as health minister.
Khairy added that these states will be receiving an additional number of vaccines and that the ministry will also transfer manpower and medical assets from states with lower demand.
“This is an effort to ensure that daily cases and the number of Malaysians hospitalised or develop serious and severe symptoms of Covid-19 and death can be reduced,” he said.
According to Khairy, 15.16 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines will be allocated to the five states, as well as Perak and Pahang, this month.
“Johor will get 1.9 million, Kedah (1.3 million), Kelantan (1.2 million), Pahang (1.4 million), Perak (1.6 million), Penang (1 million) and Sabah (2.9 million),” he said. – September 1, 2021.
