New Covid-19 cases drop to 18,762, Kelantan sees record infections

MALAYSIA has logged 18,762 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, a drop from the 20,987 cases recorded yesterday, Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said.

Today’s figure is the lowest in the past eight days, with the previous low recorded on August 23 with 17,672 cases.

The health director-general said that Selangor once again topped cases by state with 3,711 infections.

Coming behind Selangor are Sabah and Sarawak with 2,430 and 2,414 cases respectively.

The top three order has remained unchanged for the second consecutive day.

The Klang Valley, including Putrajaya, has reported a combined 4,318 cases today, with Kuala Lumpur registering 573 cases, while Putrajaya logged 34 cases.

Meanwhile, Kelantan reported a new high of 1,504 cases today, breaching the state’s record figure for the second straight day.

Kelantan reported 1,479 cases yesterday.

Other states reporting new cases are Johor (1,993), Penang (1,762), Kedah (1,585), Perak (899), Pahang (715), Terengganu (506), Malacca (309), Negri Sembilan (291) and Perlis (33).

Labuan, the only federal territory in phase 4 of the national recovery plan, reported three new cases today.

Meanwhile, the health authorities dispensed 261,768 doses of Covid-19 vaccine shots yesterday.

The special committee for Covid-19 vaccine access (JKJAV) said 115,473 were first doses while 146,295 received their second shots.

To date, a total of 34,752,340 shots have been administered. Of which 64.2% or 15,032,301 of the adult population have been fully inoculated while 84.3% or 19,741,754 have received one dose.
