COVID-19 cases in the country rose crossed the 20,000 threshold again today as the Health Ministry reported 20,897 fresh cases in the past 24 hours.
Yesterday, cases dropped to 19,268 after six continuous days of infections staying above the 20,000 mark.
Director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said Selangor continues to log the highest daily cases with 4,371 infections – its 131st consecutive day of topping the tally.
The cases in the most populous state today took its overall caseload above the 600,000 mark.
Selangor’s overall number now stands at 603,995 cases, while the nation’s caseload is at 1,746,254.
The Klang Valley, which includes Kuala Lumpur (1,003) and Putrajaya (25), recorded a combined total of 5,399 cases – or 26% of the total cases today.
Coming behind Selangor were the Bornean states of Sabah and Sarawak, which reported 2,594 and 2,285 cases respectively.
Kelantan, meanwhile, reported a record number of daily cases with 1,479 infections. Its previous high was 1,424, on August 25.
Other states reporting new cases were Johor (2,159), Kedah (1,942), Penang (1,732), Perak (1,204), Pahang (798), Terengganu (608), Malacca (417), Negri Sembilan (215) and Perlis (64).
Labuan, the only federal territory in phase 4 of the National Recovery Plan, reported one new case today.
Meanwhile, a total of 361,381 Covid-19 jabs were dispensed yesterday, taking the total number of doses administered to 34.38 million.
The special committee for Covid-19 vaccine access (JKJAV) said of the doses administered yesterday, 181,281 people received their first shot while 180,100 had their second jab. – August 31, 2021.
