AIR Selangor has announced that 463 areas in the Klang Valley will experience water cuts after the Sg Semenyih water treatment plant was shut down due to pollution detected at the Jenderam Hilir raw water pump station this morning.

Air Selangor corporate communications head Elina Baseri said the utilities company is working with Lembaga Urus Air Selangor (LUAS) to identify the source of the water pollution along Sg Semenyih and its tributaries.

She added that five Air Selangor regions – Petaling, Hulu Langat, Sepang, Putrajaya and Kuala Langat – are expected to experience unscheduled cuts.

Consumers can get the list of areas affected through the Air Selangor website well as the Air Selangor mobile app.

The last major water cut took place in November last year when four water treatment plants in Selangor were shut down after odour pollution was detected.

The disruption affected 1.14 million account holders in 1,279 areas across Kuala Lumpur, Petaling, Klang, Shah Alam, Kuala Selangor, Hulu Selangor, Gombak and Kuala Langat.

Just a month prior to that incident, the Sg Semenyih and Bukit Tampoi water treatment plants were shut down due to river contamination.

Later the same month, Sg Selangor water treatment plants 1, 2 and 3, and the Rantau Panjang plant were also closed after pollution was detected in the river.

September also saw six days of disruption involving the same water treatment plants due to river pollution. – August 31, 2021.
