HOSPITALISATION due to Covid-19 has reduced by half in Selangor due to the ramped up vaccination drive in the Klang Valley, Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari said today.
According to Amirudin, Operation Surge Capacity has helped to reduce hospital bed usage from 130% to 80% presently.
Selangor reported the most daily cases of any state for 130 straight days, as of yesterday, with a high of 8,792 cases on August 6.
However, yesterday the Ministry of Health said it was just 3,567 cases.
As a sign of solidarity, Amirudin said Selangor is donating 20,000 doses of Sinovac vaccine to Penang, in order to bring down the number of cases in the island-state.
“We are donating 20,000 doses of vaccine which can inoculate 10,000 people in Penang to help ramp up the immunisation exercise.
“With these vaccinations, we believe we can bring down the number of cases,” he told a press conference in Penang.
Amirudin said besides the 20,000 doses of vaccines given today, the Selangor government is ready to channel more vaccines to Penang should the need arise.
However, he said the Health Ministry had told Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow that the supply of vaccines to the state would stabilise.
“Nevertheless, we will leave the option open to lend or donate more vaccines,” he said.
On top of the 20,000 doses, Selangor will be “lending” 200,000 vaccine doses to Penang to address the shortage caused by a disruption in the supply of Pfizer vaccines.
This will be returned by the Covid-19 immunisation task force when supply is restored. – August 31, 2021.
