34.4 million Covid-19 shots dispensed to date

A TOTAL of 361,381 Covid-19 jabs were dispensed yesterday, taking the total number of doses administered to 34.38 million.

The special committee for Covid-19 vaccine access said of the doses administered yesterday, 181,281 people were first shots and 180,100, second shots.

This takes the number of fully vaccinated people to 4.82 million, or 63.3% or  of the adult population while 19.56 million adults, or 83.6%, have received at least one dose.

Labuan has the highest rate of vaccination with 93.5% (64,048) of the adult population fully inoculated, followed by Klang Valley at 91.1% (5,614,989) and Sarawak at 86.8% (1,773,015).

Sabah has the lowest full vaccination rate, with only 1.06 million people, or 38.7% of the adult population having completed the course.

Yesterday, Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said economic recovery was contingent on getting as many people to be vaccinated as soon as possible as vaccines were proven to be effective against Covid-19.

Meanwhile, Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Dr Adham Baba said the CanSino and Sinovac vaccines will step up inoculation in six states that have yet to dose half of their adults.

The six states are Perak (47.5%), Terengganu (47.5%), Johor (47.0%), Kedah (45.2%), Kelantan (44.8%) and Sabah (38.7%). – August 31, 2021.
