THE Klang Valley is likely to move into phase two of the national recovery plan (NRP) soon as the region has met the herd immunity threshold, Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said today.

As of August 28, 2021, 89.5% of the Klang Valley’s adult population have received two doses of the Covid-19 vaccine.

“If (vaccination coverage) is at 89.5%, maybe we can proceed to the next phase because vaccinations have exceeded herd immunity needs, at almost 90%,” Ismail said.

“Maybe several other states can also move to the next phase,” he added.

The prime minister said the matter will be discussed at the next Special Committee for Covid-19 meeting.

Recently, Putrajaya announced that the new indicator in the recovery plan – replacing the previous benchmark of daily Covid-19 infections – is daily symptomatic hospital admissions.

Daily hospitalisations of symptomatic cases will have to be at 6.1 per 100,000 population, or 2,000 new symptomatic admissions nationwide of such cases, before phase one states can transition to phase two.

As of yesterday, 6.82 million doses of vaccines were administered as first jabs and 5.51 million doses were administered as second jabs in the Klang Valley.

Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Negri Sembilan, Malacca, Johor and Kedah are currently under phase one of the NRP. – August 29, 2021.
