Covid-19 death toll tops 16,000 after 285 new fatalities

MALAYSIA logged 285 Covid-19 deaths in the past 24 hours, raising the national death toll to 16,087, the Health Ministry said today.

Of the total fatalities, 51 were declared dead on arrival and 205 had a history of comorbidities.

By state and territory, 110 deaths were reported in Selangor, 50 in Johor, 46 in Sabah, 22 in federal territory Kuala Lumpur, 16 in Penang, eight in Perak, seven each in Terengganu and Kelantan, five in Kedah, four each in Negri Sembilan and Pahang, as well as two in Perlis, Malacca and Sarawak respectively. 

The ministry also reported a total of 267,997 active cases, after the addition of 20,579 new infections today.

Of the active cases, 1,009 cases are patients in intensive care, out of which 477 are on respiratory support.

A total of 20,845 recoveries were reported today, bringing the national recovery count to 1,422,005. – August 29, 2021.
