Police seek foreign probe into claims Malaysians detained by Taliban

POLICE have submitted applications to foreign security agencies to investigate allegations regarding two Malaysians detained by Taliban authorities in Afghanistan.

Inspector-General of Police Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani said police took note of the news report that the Malaysians were arrested over their alleged involvement with the Islamic State (IS).

“So far, we do not have any information regarding the involvement of Malaysians in IS activities in Afghanistan,” he said in a statement tonight.

“However, investigations are underway to look into the possibility that the news involves Malaysian IS fighters who are already abroad.”

International media today reported that two Malaysians were among six people detained by Taliban authorities for being involved in armed clashes in Kabul on Thursday. – Bernama, August 28, 2021.
