THE number of vaccinated people being treated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for Covid-19 dropped to 25 patients today from yesterday’s 56 cases, Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said.

Of the 25, the Health Ministry director-general said that 10 patients were in Category 5 (critical condition and intubated) and 15 were in Category 4 (with pneumonia and requiring oxygen).

Yesterday, 56 cases of vaccinated patients were in the ICU, of which 36 were in Category 5 and 20 in Category 4.

However, Noor Hisham’s press statement today did not provide details as to whether the reduced number of vaccinated patients in ICU were due to discharges, transfers to the normal ward, or if they had succumbed to the virus.

Meanwhile, the overall number admitted in ICUs and those requiring respiratory support dropped to 982 and 470, respectively, the lowest figures in almost a month.

Besides this, Noor Hisham said that of today’s 22,070 new infections, 21,658 cases or 98.1% were in Category 1 and 2 (mild Covid-19), while a combined total of 412 cases were in categories 3, 4 and 5.

The unvaccinated, or those who have only received one dose, comprised 77.2% (17,029 cases) of today’s total infections.

Of these, 7,532 were category 1 patients, 9,151 in category 2 and 136 in category 3. There were 65 cases in category 4 and 145 in category 5.

The total number of fully vaccinated adults as of yesterday is 14.1 million people or 60.2% of the adult population. – August 27, 2021.
