Covid-19 cases drop to 22,070

THERE was a drop in new Covid-19 cases today with 22,070 infections reported as of noon, Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said.

Yesterday, Malaysia reported a record high 24,599 cases. 

The director-general of health said that Selangor once again remained the state with the most daily infection as it recorded 5,920 cases. 

Sabah and Sarawak were second and third on the list today as the Bornean states reported 3,010 and 2,224 cases respectively.

This is the fourth straight day cases in Sabah have breached the 3,000 mark, after setting a state record yesterday with 3,487. 

Other states reporting new cases today were Kedah (2,072), Penang (1,829), Johor (1,809), Kuala Lumpur (1,068), Kelantan (1,051), Perak (939), Pahang (610), Malacca (589), Terengganu (488) and Negri Sembilan (338).

States and territories reporting fewer than 100 cases were Perlis with 76, Putrajaya (39) and Labuan (8), which is in phase 4 of the national recovery plan. 

The nation’s caseload now stands at 1,662,913. 

Overall, Selangor tops the chart with 585,652 cases followed by Kuala Lumpur with 169,773 cases and Sabah with 137,527. 

Meanwhile, the health authorities administered 408,295 shots of Covid-19 vaccines yesterday, taking the total number of fully vaccinated adults to 14,095,554, or 60.2% of grown-ups. 

The special committee for Covid-19 vaccine access said 155,669 people received their first dose yesterday, while 252,626 others received the second and final dose. 

Fourteen million people, or 60.2% of the adult population, have been fully vaccinated, while 18.9 million or 80.9% have received their first dose. 

In total, more than 33 million doses of vaccine have been administered since February 24. 

Labuan has the highest full vaccination rate with 92.9% of its adult population, or 63,663 people, having received two doses. – August 27, 2021.
