THE number of fully vaccinated individuals admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) increased to 56 today from 38 yesterday, said Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
The director-general of health said of the number, 36 were in category 5 (critical condition and in need of ventilator support) and the remaining 20 were in category 4 (patients having pneumonia and requiring oxygen).
Yesterday, 38 cases were admitted to the ICU, of which 25 were in category 5 and 13 in category 4.
Malaysia reported a record 24,599 fresh Covid-19 cases today and the health DG said the bulk of the new cases were from categories 1 and 2.
He said 23,939 – or 97.3% – of the cases today fell under these two categories, while only 660 cases were in categories 3, 4 and 5.
Of the cases in category 1 and 2, 4,745 cases involved people who had been fully dosed.
A total of 2,125 cases were in category 1 and 2,308 were in category 2.
Noor Hisham said 19,761 – or 80.3% – of the cases today were people who had not been vaccinated or had not completed course.
Of these, there were 9,196 category 1 patients, 9,998 in category 2 and 160 in category 3.
There were 98 cases in category 4 and 309 in category 5.
Meanwhile, the Special Committee for Ensuring Access to Covid-19 Vaccine Supply (JKJAV) said they administered 423,380 vaccines yesterday – 161,386 people received their first dose and 261,994 their second jab.
In total, 32,635,907 million doses of vaccine have been administered since the national Covid-19 immunisation programme began on February 24. – August 26, 2021.
