THE Health Ministry reported 24,599 new Covid-19 cases as of noon today, yet another record-breaking tally for the nation, director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said.
The previous high was 23,564 cases, recorded on August 20.
The new cases today bring the nation’s caseload to 1,640,843.
Selangor once again topped the chart of new cases by state with 6,936 cases, taking the state’s total to 579,732.
New infections in Kuala Lumpur (881) and Putrajaya (20) brought the total cases in the Klang Valley to 7,837 cases or 32% of the total cases in the country today.
Three other states reported a record surge in cases today, with Johor seeing the biggest rise at 2,785 infections.
The southern state’s previous high was 1,832 cases, reported yesterday.
Sabah and Penang reported a new high of 3,487 and 2,078 cases respectively. They were second and third in the list of states with most cases.
Both states reported their previous high on August 24 with 3,376 and 2,054 cases respectively.
Other states reporting new cases today were Sarawak (2,024), Kedah (1,538), Kelantan (1,312), Perak (1,170), Pahang (690), Terengganu (567), Negri Sembilan (526), Malacca (515) and Perlis (67) cases.
Labuan, the only federal territory which had moved to phase 4 of the National Recovery Plan, reported three new cases.
Meanwhile, the Special Committee for Ensuring Access to Covid-19 Vaccine Supply (JKJAV) said they administered 423,380 vaccines yesterday – 161,386 people received their first dose and 261,994 their second jab.
In total, 32,635,907 million doses of vaccine have been administered since the national Covid-19 immunisation programme began on February 24.
Labuan has the highest number of adults having completed their vaccination course at 92.8% or 63,575 people. – August 26, 2021.
