38 vaccinated people in ICU

SOME 38 vaccinated people are in intensive care for Covid-19, director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said.

He added that 25 patients were in Category 5 (critical condition and in need of ventilator support) and a further 13 were in Category 4 (patients having pneumonia and requiring oxygen)

Another 30 patients were in Category 3, where pneumonia has set in but patients did not require respiratory assistance. 

Meanwhile, Noor Hisham said almost 98%, or 22,164 of today’s 22,642 Covid-19 cases were from Categories 1 and 2, in which patients displayed only mild symptoms or none at all.

Just 478 or 2.1% cases were from Categories 3, 4 and 5.

As for cases of vaccinated people contracting the virus, 2,125 cases were Category 1 and 2,308 were in Category 2.

Noor Hisham said that 18,143 – or 80.1% – of the cases today were people who had not been vaccinated or had not completed their course.

Of these, there were 8,367 Category 1 patients, 9,357 in Category 2 and 203 in Category 3.

There were 57 cases in Category 4 and 150 in Category 5. 

A total of 155,004 people received their first dose, while 265,130 others received their second jab.

To date, 13.6 million (58%) of the adult population have been vaccinated, while 18.6 million (79.6%) have received one jab.

In total, 31.8 million vaccine doses have been administered since the vaccination programme started on February 24. – August 25, 2021.
