OPPOSITION coalition Pakatan Harapan will not “complicate matters” in a vote of confidence for Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob, if his new government implements policies that address the needs of the people, opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim said today.

“We told him that under these conditions, and (if) the programme that he will implement is for the benefit of the people, we will not complicate matters when a vote of confidence is called,” Anwar told reporters after meeting the prime minister in Putrajaya today.

Also with him were Amanah president Mohamad Sabu and DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng.

In the hour-long meeting, Anwar said they had discussed new measures to handle the Covid-19 pandemic and prioritise the welfare of the people.

“It was a good start for us to discuss better measures to handle the Covid-19 pandemic and help the B40 (income earners) who have lost their jobs.

“This is one of the most important points that we got across,” Anwar told reporters after the meeting.

The Port Dickson MP said he assured Ismail that if the opposition’s suggestions were considered, they will not take issue with the current leadership and assured the prime minister that the political situation will be more stable.

Ismail was sworn in as the ninth prime minister on Saturday after Muhyiddin Yassin lost his slim majority in Parliament.

Following Ismail’s appointment as the new prime minister, the Agong had said that he must face a motion of confidence in Parliament to show that he enjoyed the support of the majority.

Parliament is set to meet on September 6. – August 25, 2021.
