Jobless man burns down home after mother's refusal to give him money

AN unemployed man yesterday burned down his family home in Jengka 11, Maran, Kuantan, after his mother refused to give him money.

Maran police chief DSP Norzamri Abd Rahman said the 37-year-old suspect was believed to have carried out the act at 2pm after threatening to do so over the last two days.

“There were no casualties in the fire as the suspect’s mother, 66, had gone to live with another son due to the suspect’s aggressive behaviour of the suspect.

“The suspect was nabbed near the house and from initial investigations, it is believed he started the fire by burning a mattress in the house,” Norzamri told reporters here today.

He said the fire destroyed the brick and wooden house, causing losses amounting to about RM90,000.

He said the suspect had a record of four cases of drug-related offences. – Bernama, January 20, 2018.
