THE police have obtained a court order to stop an anti-government demonstration in Kuala Lumpur tomorrow, specifically naming 33 people affiliated with Sekretariat Solidariti Rakyat (SSR).

Police are under orders to prevent any march from Sogo Shopping Mall to Dataran Merdeka, passing by Masjid Jamek on the way.

The order, made on behalf of Dang Wangi police chief Noor Dellhan Yahaya, was granted by Kuala Lumpur Magistrate’s Court today.

According to police, participants are planning to gather in Dataran Merdeka at 11.30am tomorrow without the authorities’ permission.

“Therefore, to avoid disruption, the court has taken an approach to prevent unwarranted incidents from happening that could lead to chaos or riot if the gathering is allowed to take place.

“The 1km march from Sogo Shopping Mall to Masjid Jamek is prohibited and no one is allowed to participate, to be present or to take part in the rally,” the court order read.

The participants named in the order are: Mohamad Asyraf Sharafi Mohamad Azhar, Mohamad Alshatri Abdullah, Nur Qyira Izzati Yusri, Sevan Doraisamy, Tharmelinggem Pillai, Amir Hariri Abd Hadi, Chew Chuan Yang, Numan Afifi Sa’adan, Syazwan Mahmud, Nik Azura Nik Nasron, Siti Nurrizah Mohd Tazali, Sarah Irdina Mohamad Ariff, Umar Mohamad Azmi, Teo Lee Ken, Asheeq Ali Sethi Alivi, Tian Chua, Nashita Mohd Noor, Bad Latiff Mansor, Asma Bad Latiff, Muhammad Adrian Shahputra, Nasir Mat Isa, Alif Aiman Asri, Edlyn Beverly Joeman, Thanussa Francis Xavier, Thiban Subbramaniam, Mathen Muniasupran, Abd Malek Hussin, Sharan Raj Muniandy, Muhamad Zharif Muslim, Mayna Ramesh Patel, Nadia Malyanah Azman, Shaan Gom and Nurul Zariah Jakaria.

They are affiliated to SSR, which has organised several protests against the government over the past two months.

Also named in the court order are “all others who will be identified by the police”.

On Wednesday, the group’s spokesperson Ashraf Sharafi – named in the court order - said the protest, originally planned for tomorrow, would be cancelled following the resignation of Muhyiddin Yassin – one of the group’s key demands.

It also wants Parliament to be reopened and a blanket automatic loan repayment moratorium.

SSR organised a protest on July 31 at Dataran Merdeka, demanding Muhyiddin’s resignation.

Prior to this protest, they had organised an in-vehicle protest to try and circumvent movement control order restrictions.

Last night, 31 people from SSR were arrested for holding a vigil in commemoration at Dataran Merdeka for those who lost their lives to Covid-19.

They were all fined RM2,000 each. Noor Dellhan said the SSR members had violated Covid-19 SOP. – August 20, 2021.
