MALAYSIA reported a record high of 22,948 new Covid-19 cases as of noon today, bringing the total caseload closer to 1.5 million, director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said. 

The new figure breached the previous high of 22,242 cases, which was reported yesterday. 

For the 119th day, Selangor reported the highest number of infections by state with 7,175 cases, followed by Sabah (2,583) and Kedah (2,137). 

The figure for Sabah today is a new record for the state, with the previous high logged yesterday at 2,413. 

Other states and federal territories reporting new cases are Penang (1,655), Johor (1,526), Kuala Lumpur (1,439), Kelantan (1,271), Perak (1,229), Sarawak (1,206), Malacca (737), Pahang (736), Terengganu (621) and Negri Sembilan (556).

Perlis, Putrajaya and Labuan reported 42, 26 and nine cases respectively. 

On overall cases by state, Selangor has recorded 538,146 cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur (160,650) and Johor (116,667). 

The total caseload in the country stands at 1,489,460.

Yesterday, healthcare workers administered 531,114 Covid-19 vaccine jabs, of which 342,640 were second doses and 188,474, first doses. 

In total, the country has administered more than 29.3 million vaccine doses – 17.6 million people or 54% of the population have received one dose and 11.7 million or 36% have completed their vaccination with two doses. – August 19, 2021.
