Nearly half of adult population vaccinated against Covid-19

ABOUT 48.7% of the adult population in Malaysia have been fully vaccinated against the coronavirus with two jabs, the Special Committee for Ensuring Access to Covid-19 Vaccine Supply said today.

“More than 500,000 doses were administered yesterday as a result of the hard work and cooperation from all parties, increasing the vaccination percentage of Malaysian adult population who have received two doses to 48.7%,” the committee said.

The committee said 525,111 doses were administered on August 17, of which 340,139 were second doses while 184,972, first doses.

Meanwhile, 11.40 million individuals have received two doses while 17.43 million people or 74.5% of the adult population have received one shot

Tiny Labuan had the highest rate of full vaccination with 89.7% of its adult population, or 61,472 people, having received two doses.

Tthe Klang Valley has seen the highest number of doses dispensed 6.53 million first jabs and 4.38 million second jabs.

In total, 28.83 million doses of vaccine have been administered since the vaccination drive began on February 24.

Putrajaya aims to vaccinate half of the country’s adult population by Merdeka Day. 

Meanwhile, restrictions have been eased for fully vaccinated people in states in phase 2  and above of the national recovery plan.

Those who have had two shots of the vaccine in those states may now dine out, travel inter-district, take local tours, and take part in selected sports. – August 18, 2021.
