PARTI Warisan Sabah will support Anwar Ibrahim as prime minister provided the PKR president can get a majority in the Dewan Rakyat, Mohd Shafie Apdal said.

The Warisan president said the opposition has agreed that Pakatan Harapan now could count on 105 members of Parliament for support.

“As of now, we have agreed that we have 105 MPs and if Anwar manages to get a majority, then he will be the new prime minister,” Shafie told Astro Awani tonight.

“If he does not get the majority and I manage to get the support of the majority, all the leaders of Pakatan Harapan will support me.

“I have already spoke to Anwar, Amanah president Mohamad Sabu and DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng.”

He said he and Anwar are both prime ministerial candidates from the opposition.

Shafie also denied rumours of him being the deputy prime minister and finance minister if he threw in his party’s lot with Perikatan Nasional.

Earlier today, Warisan Youth chief Mohd Azis Jamman said opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim needs another seven MPs in addition to the 105 already backing him to have majority support to become prime minister.

He said on Twitter that the Sabah party is ready to support Anwar if he has the “magic number”.

“Warisan will support DSAI (Anwar Ibrahim) for PM if DSAI can get past the magic number and hope PH (Pakatan Harapan) will give right of first refusal to Shafie (Apdal) if DSAI can’t get past the magic number,” the Sepanggar MP said.

In response to questions by other Twitter users to clarify the “magic number”, Azis said opposition parties currently have 105 MPs and are short of seven more to hit the simple majority of 111 out of 220 MPs. – August 17, 2021.
