TWO individuals with the “Datuk” title, detained by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission to facilitate investigations into alleged graft in the construction of the Penang undersea tunnel project, were released on bail today.
Magistrate Aida Kharuleen Azli ordered that the 59-year-old senior executive director of a consortium company and the 50-year-old deputy chairman of a property development company be released on a RM200,000 bail each.
On January 9, the duo were detained separately, in Putrajaya and Penang, and remanded for six days, beginning January 10, by the Putrajaya magistrates’ court and George Town magistrates’ court.
Their remand was later extended for five days, beginning January 15.
The arrests were made following MACC raids on several state government offices at Komtar and several companies, related to the agency’s investigations into the tunnel project.
The raids followed a report lodged by Parti Cinta Malaysia vice-president Huan Cheng Guan. – Bernama, January 19, 2018.
