A TOTAL of 520 Covid-19 patients were in need of ventilator support today, all part of the 1,047 patients receiving treatment in intensive care units, director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said. 

Malaysia also recorded 274 deaths today, slightly lower than yesterday’s 282. 

Today’s fatalities bring the cumulative death toll to 12,784. 

There were 17,450 recoveries today, bringing the number of people who have recovered from Covid-19 in the country to 1,162,578. 

Of the total fatalities, 77 were dead-on-arrival cases and 201 had a history of comorbidities.

A total of 274 death cases today involved 100 cases in Selangor, 39 cases in Kuala Lumpur, 31 cases in Johor, 21 cases in Kedah, 19 cases in Penang, 16 cases in Malacca, 15 cases in Sabah, 10 cases in Perak, nine cases in Kelantan, five cases each in Sarawak and Negri Sembilan, three cases in Terengganu, and one case in Pahang.

In terms of new Covid-19 cases, Malaysia logged 19,740 infections today, out of which 16,805 cases involved patients who were either unvaccinated or had not completed their vaccination. 

Noor Hisham said patients in categories three (pneumonia), four (pneumonia and requires oxygen support), and five (critical stage) made up 298 cases or 1.5% of the daily cases recorded today.

Meanwhile, 19,442 or 98.5% cases were from categories one (asymptomatic) and two (mild symptoms). – August 16, 2021.
