ROSLEI Kamisan, the man detained for allegedly making hurtful comments to the Kedah Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor is now seeking RM100,000 in damages from the Kuala Muda district police chief for slander.

Roslei’s counsel, Asheeq Ali Sethi Alivi, said in a statement his client is also demanding a public apology from ACP Adzli Abu Shah.

This was after Adzli had made a press statement on August 9 in which he branded Roslei, also known as Tok Abah, as a person with a past criminal record and who was being investigated for criminal intimidation.

“The statement from the police chief was defamatory and false.”

“The police had intentionally and maliciously released the statement, knowing it would be read by the public and that this would irreversibly damage Roslei’s reputation.”

“This has led to the perception that my client is a criminal and as one who does not obey the law, and it gives the impression that there is a tendency to criminally intimidate others and that he is a bad person,” said Asheeq.

Adzli has 14 days to comply with the demands stated by Roslei, failing which legal action would be initiated.

On Monday, Roslei was picked up at his home in Lenggeng, Negri Sembilan for making hurtful comments against Sanusi in a nine-minute-long video posted on Facebook.

The arrest was made after the man berated Sanusi for a joke he had made about containers being used as makeshift morgues for those who died from Covid-19.

“The arrest was made following a police report made by Sanusi’s aide yesterday. We detained the man about 3.47am on Monday.”

“We confiscated a mobile phone belonging to the man. Investigation shows he had a prior record, which is still being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation,” Adzli previously told The Malaysian Insight.

The video was uploaded onto a Facebook page called “Kamal Hero Malaya”. – August 14, 2021.
