NO country in the world would want a 93-year-old as leader, not even Zimbabwe, Prime Minister Najib Razak said today in a growing war of words with the opposition ahead of the 14th general election
Commenting on Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) pick of its chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad as its prime minister designate, Najib questioned whether Malaysians would want a nonagenarian to lead the country.
Najib is on a two-day visit to Sabah – one of two Bornean states widely regarded as the ruling Barisan Nasional’s “fixed deposit” of votes – and is scheduled to open a new secondary school at Kota Marudu later.
Najib was referring to another 93-year-old leader, Zimbabwe’s recently ousted president Robert Mugabe.
“Can they (PH) match the development brought by Barisan Nasional?” he said.
Najib said it was BN that brought progress to the country and especially to Sabah, where he said billions of ringgit had been poured in to ensure the state could keep pace with developments in Peninsular Malaysia.
He recounted the initiatives he had brought when he first became prime minister in 2009, such as the Pan-Borneo Highway (RM13 billion for the first phase), the Nabawan health facility that included staff quarters (RM59 million), Tanjung Aru Eco Development (RM500 million) and the Sabah International Convention Centre (RM250 million), as well as RM1 billion to upgrade dilapidated schools with the Industrial building system (IBS).
He vowed to approve more allocations for Sabah if BN was again given the mandate to govern.
“We must look forward. We must look 30 years from now to my National Transformation programme, which is all done for the future generations.
“Not even (Dr Mahathir) in his 22-years as prime minister had approved so much development for Sabah like I have since I become the prime minister,” he said.
Najib today approved RM3 million for the construction of PPRT units in Pensiangan and instructed the health ministry to produce a study paper on opening a haemodialysis centre in Nabawan. – January 19, 2018.

BUT, I will support his role in Pakatan Harapan, and hope that the coalition wins GE14.
Why? Becauae under Najib, Malaysia has become the worst kleptocracy in the world, with the MO1 being directly implicated. And however much I detest Mahathir, I detest Najib more.
Najib is himself responsible for the 93 year old being in contention to become PM once again. What an "achievement".
