ABOUT 40.7% of Malaysia’s adult population have been immunised with two doses of the Covid-19 vaccine, the special committee for ensuring access to Covid-19 vaccine supply said today.

A total of 497,352 doses were administered yesterday, the majority of which were second doses. Of this 269,846 were second doses while 227,506 were first, according to the post.

This means that, as of yesterday, 9.51 million adults have now completed their two-dose schedule, while 16.34 million or 69.8% have received their first jab.

Labuan has the highest rate of vaccination with 87.1% of its adult population or 59,659 people having received two doses.

In terms of quantity, the Klang Valley saw the highest number of doses dispensed with 6.32 million first jabs and 3.57 million second jabs.

The government is aiming to immunise 50% of the country’s general population by Merdeka Day.

Meanwhile, restrictions have been eased for vaccinated people in states in phases 2 and 3 of the national recovery plan.

Those who have had two shots of the vaccine in those states may now dine at a restaurant, travel between districts, take local tours, and take part in selected sports. – August 12, 2021.
