OPPOSITION parties have sent letters to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong rejecting Muhyiddin Yassin as prime minister, after Umno’s revelation earlier today that 14 MPs had pulled their support, Malaysiakini reports.
Sources from Amanah and Pejuang told the news portal that they had sent the letters to Istana Negara at 4pm today.
“All 105 MPs from Pejuang, DAP, PKR, Warisan, PSB, Muda, Amanah, and (independent) Maszlee Malik sent letters.
“With the opposition’s decision to unanimously reject Muhyiddin,” one of the sources was quoted as saying by the portal.
Another source reportedly said the parties submitted the letters en bloc.
Earlier today, Umno Online reported that 14 party MPs had pulled their support for Muhyiddin.
According to the official party news site, Umno president Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had added six more names to the list of MPs who have withdrawn their support for the Bersatu president.
The additional names were presented to the king in a letter dated August 4.
Besides Zahid, the other 13 MPs in the list were Najib Razak (Pekan), Ahmad Maslan (Pontian), Dr Shamsul Anuar Nasarah (Lenggong), Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim (Baling), Azalina Othman Said (Pengerang), Bung Moktar Radin (Kinabatangan), Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub (Machang), Mohd Nizar Zakaria (Parit), Ahmad Nazlan Idris (Jerantut), Ramli Mohd Nor (Cameron Highlands), Mohamad Alamin (Kimanis), Noh Omar (Tg Karang), and Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah (Gua Musang).
According to Zahid, the 14 had never signed any statutory declarations in support of Muhyiddin, and had asked Dewan Rakyat Speaker Azhar Azizan Harun to change their seats from government to opposition.
“None of the above MPs has withdrawn the statutory declarations presented to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong,” said Zahid in the three-page letter. – August 9, 2021.
