A SENIOR citizen has been arrested by Kedah police for making hurtful comments against the Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor in a nine-minute-long video posted on Facebook.

Kuala Muda district police chief Adzli Abu Shah confirmed the arrest, saying the 61- year-old was picked up at his home in Lenggeng, Negri Sembilan.

The arrest was made after the man berated Sanusi for a joke he had made about containers being used as makeshift morgue for those who died from Covid-19.

“The arrest was made following a police report made by Sanusi’s aide yesterday. We detained the man about 3.47am this morning.

“We confiscated a mobile phone belonging to the man. Investigation shows he had a prior record, which is still being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation,” he told The Malaysian Insight.

The video was uploaded onto a Facebook page called “Kamal Hero Malaya”.

Adzli said the video is being probed under Section 504 of the Penal Code, Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955, and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

Section 504 of the Penal Code covers intentional insult with intent to provoke a breach of the peace, while Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act deals with persons using indecent, threatening, abusive or insulting words on others.

Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 provides for action to be taken against anyone for the improper use of network facilities.

According to news reports, the man repeatedly questioned Sanusi’s intelligence.

The senior citizen, who referred to himself as “Tok Abah”, also said Sanusi previously blew his top when a whistle blower outed him for going on a test drive during the Covid-19 lockdown and challenged the PAS leader to take action against him.

Nini Siron, who previously outed Sanusi for the test drive, had complained about being harassed by political operatives after she blew the whistle on him.

Recently Sanusi caused a controversy by asking journalists if they wanted to volunteer to be in containers which were being used as a makeshift morgue to store Covid-19 bodies.

He was initially asked by reporters if there were enough containers to store the dead.

Sanusi has apologised but defended that his joke was taken out of context. – August 9, 2021.
