Pharmacy sourced Covid test kits from unapproved company, says domestic trade ministry

A PHARMACY in Terengganu that sold Covid-19 self-test kits for RM60 per unit had obtained their supplies from a company in Pahang that was not authorised to sell and distribute the test kits, investigations showed.

The Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry (KPDNHEP) conducted an inspection on the pharmacy after receiving complaints from users of the Covid-19 self-test kits.

“KPDNHEP will submit the findings of this investigation to the responsible party, namely the Medical Device Authority, for further action as it is not under the jurisdiction of KPDNHEP,” it said.

The prices of Covid-19 self-test kits are not regulated.

In a statement today, KPDNHEP said that the kits have not been listed as a controlled item.

Earlier, KPDNHEP said that it is considering setting a price cap for Covid-19 self-test kits.

The ministry also urged consumers to be careful when purchasing Covid-19 self-test kits, and to refer to its official website for updated information on the companies that are authorised to distribute and sell the test kits.

Only six companies have received approval to distribute and sell Covid-19 self-test kits in Malaysia.

They are Reszon Diagnostic International Sdn Bhd, Citymedic Sdn Bhd, Medinics (M) Sdn Bhd, Global Science Sdn Bhd, Neopharma Biotech Asia Sdn Bhd, and Jingga Anggun Sdn Bhd. – Bernama, August 7, 2021.
