UMNO politician and Parit MP Mohd Nizar bin Zakaria has denied being one of the 31 Barisan Nasional (BN) MPs said to support Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin and the Perikatan Nasional government.
Nizar said that his position is consistent with Umno’s stand.
“I am obedient to the party’s decision. The party’s supreme council has made a decision and taken a stand. As a party member, I will follow the party’s decision,” he said on Facebook today.
He was named by Deputy Prime Minister and Umno vice-president Ismail Sabri Yaakob at a press conference yesterday as one of the 31 BN MPs who support Muhyiddin.
Nizar is now the third MP in the group to clarify his stand.
Hours after Ismail’s announcement yesterday, Tanjong Karang MP Noh Omar and Baling MP Abdul Azeez Rahim issued separate press statements to state that they do not support Muhyiddin.
Noh and Azeez said that their signatures on a list purportedly showing their support for Muhyiddin was merely a confirmation of their attendance at the press conference held yesterday.
They added that they had only attended the event to hear what Ismail had to say.
Earlier today, think-tank Institut Darul Ehsan released a tally of MPs who are for and against Muhyiddin and the PN government. It showed that 102 MPs support the Pagoh MP as prime minister, while 118 are against.
Following the recent clarification from Nizar, the score of MPs for and against Muhyiddin is now 101 to 119. – August 7, 2021.
