ALL 18 Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) members of Parliament will vote for Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin when a confidence vote is tabled in the Dewan Rakyat next month, secretary-general Alexander Nanta Linggi said.

He said the decision was made at a Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu meeting with GPS chief Abang Johari Openg.

“We (will) vote as a party (coalition). The priority of GPS today is the people and in dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic,” Linggi said after the meeting.

He said the country also needs to speed up the vaccination programme and get the battered nation back on an even keel.

In a statement later, Linggi, who is also the Kapit MP and minister of domestic trade and consumer affairs, appealed to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to allow the Perikatan Nasional government to continue until its validity is determined at next month’s parliamentary meeting.

Condemning the latest attempt to remove Muhyiddin as prime minister and plunge the country into a new round of political uncertainty in a space of 20 months, Linggi said it only created more anxiety among the people, who are already hard hit by the pandemic.

He hoped that all parties will stop politicking until Parliament reconvenes.

“(After that) all MPs can then make their stand on whether or not to support Muhyiddin.” – August 7, 2021.
