TAIPING MP Nga Kor Ming’s home in Ipoh and his Taiping service centre were raided, and his phone confiscated today by Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) officers, over social media posts disparaging the government that have been linked to Nga.
MCMC also paid a visit to Nga’s parents in Ayer Tawau in a third raid.
Nga is expected to make a statement to the MCMC at the Sungai Senam police station.
His DAP colleague, Beruas MP Ngeh Koo Ham told Malaysiakini that MCMC said the raids were prompted by Nga’s comments on social media.
“The MCMC had not checked whether these posts actually came from his account. There have been many occasions where people use Nga’s photo and name to make fake posts,” Ngeh was quoted saying.
The MCMC did not specify which allegedly offensive posts it was investigating, but Ngeh said the commission was acting under Section 233 (1) of the MCMC Act, the law against improper use of network facilities. – January 18, 2018.
